NELA TV
Northeast Los Angeles is one of the oldest settled areas of Los Angeles and is also one of the most scenic due to its architecture and location between the Mt. Washington Hills, the San Rafael Hills and the Monterey Hills, Los Angeles, California.
Northeast Los Angeles experienced white flight, from the development of Mid-Wilshire district in the 1920's through the late 1960's/early 1970's with the development and creation of new neighborhoods in Temple City to the east and the San Fernando VAlley to the north-west. By the mid 1960's, it was becoming a largely Latino enclave. Over development caused land prices to drop. By the mid 1970's, it had emerged as a predominantly Latino are. In keeping with it's tradition of being a haven for immigrants, however, the racial demographics never fully homogenized leading to what is now Northeast Los Angeles.
NELA TV is a hyper-local media outlet focused on the neighboring communities of Northeast Los Angeles. NELA TV highlights community news, breaking stories, social issues, sports, lifestyles, local events and local businesses.
NELA TV was founded on the theory that media should be created by the people for the people in a professional story format that connects on some emotional level.
Created by Erik Daniel Garcia a native of Highland Park, Eagle Rock and Boyle Heights, Mr. Garcia graduated from Franklin High School realizing the lack of resources and opportunities for youth in NELA. "That's why NELA TV was created, to give youth the proper tools to express themselves creatively while finding their voice in the process."
